Employers in high-demand fields find difficulty filling available jobs

Working to close the skills gap

By Ingrid Jaques
The Detroit News – OPINION

Archana Mani of Farmington Hills wants to get back in the work force. But after staying home with her children the past 10 years, the 40-year-old realized she faced an uphill battle.

She has her master’s in information systems from Eastern Michigan University, but she knew her skills required some freshening. So she enrolled in the Shifting Code program at the Wayne County Community College District in Detroit, which she says has made her more confident. The new program works with area employers to match demand with skilled workers. Read More...

This Dirty Jobs™ cleaning product review comes from Nichol at Kiddies Corner Deals website.

It’s the time of year to spring clean, YAY! Perhaps you’re saying to yourself really Nichol, you’re excited about that? Well, I am. I enjoy spring cleaning as I get to rid the junk that has been in the basement, closets, old toys and other items around my home that are no use anymore. Not only do I enjoy clearing out items, I get to deep clean my entire home. I am a cleaning fanatic. My home is spotless most of the time but I do not clean baseboards, under beds, in closets, drawers etc. on a regular basis. So by the time spring rolls around it’s definitely ready. With our home being under construction a good portion of last year, and most of 2012, my home is a dusty mess. However, Dirty Jobs has come to my rescue in helping deep clean this year. Wait a minute Dirty Jobs the television show with Mike Rowe? Yes! My Dirty Jobs has launched a line of heavy duty cleaning products inspired by Mike Rowe of Dirty Jobs from the hit TV series, which is formulated to handle all of our “dirtiest jobs.

I have to admit I am rather ecstatic about this line of products. I watch the show with my husband all the time and with him working in a factory assembling diesel engines his clothes get filthy. I was sent Dirty Jobs Complete Heavy-Duty Stain Remover, an oxygen-powered stain remover that has many uses whether for stains on clothes, mold in the bathroom, or surfaces that need a deep cleansing. Arriving in a convenient container with a handle, inside includes a scoop and the back has instructions for use.

I was cleaning winter coats the day this arrived, and knew I had to give my husbands dingy work coat some cleaning power. After following instructions, I washed his coat, dried it, and was impressed at the result. His greasy, dirty coat looked wonderful. There were some really old stains that were almost unnoticeable after using the heavy-duty stain remover plus the overall look of the coat appeared brighter.

I couldn’t stop there. With winter finally deciding to wind-up our white outdoor table was filthy. I made a solution of the cleaner in a spray bottle then sprayed it on the table. After about 8 minutes I wiped the table clean, and again was impressed with the outcome. The table that has been sitting out in the snow all season was now mostly white. Many of the stains had disappeared.

The Domestic Diva offers here review of the new Dirty Jobs™ cleaning products.

I’ve mentioned before that I live in a household of all boys, from scratched DVDs to Superheroes in the course of any given day lots of messes are bound to occur. From baseball stained clothes to everyday messes big or small, this Mom is definitely kept busy.

I was sent a box of samples of some new cleaning products that recently hit Walmart store shelves called Dirty Jobs. Yep, you read that right. As in Mike Rowe. As in Dirty Jobs the TV show. Same guy, same show, just now in cleaning product form. I admit, I love the show Dirty Jobs and squealed with a bit of excitement over the autographed photo in the samples box of Mike Rowe. You could probably guess that I had some high hopes for these cleaning products after that.

But today I’m only going to talk about my favorite product out of the Dirty Jobs cleaning product line and that is the Heavy Duty All-Purpose Degreaser. As soon as I read “Degreaser” on the label I knew exactly where I was going to test it out. In the kitchen, behind my stove, is a backsplash that has been the hardest area to get and keep clean. I’ve tried just about everything on that surface to try and get the caked on grease off of it. Nothing seemed to work. So that is the area that I went to work on. Below are the before and after results of how the Dirty Jobs Heavy Duty All-Purpose Degreaser gave me back my beautiful backsplash…
